Obituary

Richard E. McClain was born on September 13, 1950 on the West Side of Chicago, Illinois.  His father nicknamed him "Rusty" from his sandy brown hair.  He was the only son born to the union of his mother and father, Richard E. Sr. and Remona Shines.  Richard grew up in the Robert Taylor Homes 4555 and he later graduated receiving his diploma from Dunbar High School.  On April 23, 1971, Richard married the love of his life, Carmen Dye.  To that union they were blessed with eight children.  He dedicated his life to Christ at an early age and rededicated later in life under the covering of Pastor Smokie Norful.  Richard was an awesome provider.  He retired after 25 plus years of Railroad Service at Auto Rails and DAS.

Richard enjoyed some of his best youthful years with his road dogs that were more like brothers; Marion, Sam, Luck, Ned.  The Mayhornes and the Rhones.  Richard's favorite hobby was to BBQ for his family.  He prepared some of the best, most tender ribs.

Richard was very kind and friendly to everyone.  He was just and fair with his dealings with people despite their shortcomings.  He exhibited the meaning of Matthew 5:6.  A true man of God.  He had a genuine desire of fellowship.  He served 17 years as a member of Victory Cathedral Worship Center.  On April 19, 2023, the God that he put his trust in took his hand and asked that he walk with him and drew him into his presence.  After all of the pain, hurt and suffering of this world, Richard was at peace.

Those left to carry on his legacy are his loving children; Genitra (Gerald), Richard, Taria (Tim), Itaria (Torrence), Byron (Angie), Ian (Synethia), Brandon and his baby girl, Kahla.  Richard affectionately known as "Papa" leaves behind 26 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two additional on the way; his sisters, Jennifer (Donald Sr.), Leslie (Ned Sr.), Reva, Sharon, Remona, Marilyn and a host of in-laws who he loved dearly.

Richard's father, mother, sister, Sheila, beloved daughter, Iyanna and beautiful loving wife, Carmen preceded him in death. On April 23, 2023, they celebrated 52 years of marriage in Heaven.
