Rico Winston-Cole Brass, born on February 15, 1987, in Joliet, Illinois, was truly a remarkable person who brought joy to everyone who crossed his path. He was preceded in death by beloved family members, including his grandparents, Sandra Smith, Rosie Pruitte, and Herman Brass, as well as his dear aunt, Estella Brass-Bloxton and Aunt Lillie Baptist.
As the cherished son of Elvis Foster (Debra) and Lavita Blackwell (Kerwin), Rico not only excelled academically, graduating proudly from Joliet Central High School, but he also pursued his passion for technology at ITT Technical College. His journey eventually led him to New York, where he continued to develop his skills and made a positive impact working for Street Outreach at Illinois Youth and Family Services.
Rico was known for his gentle demeanor and that infectious smile that could brighten anyone's day. He treasured his roles as a son, nephew, uncle, and brother, always finding joy in the time spent with family and friends. His love for chess and checkers was more than just a hobby; it was a way for him to bond with others and create lasting memories through friendly competition.
The unexpected passing of Rico on Monday, January 13, 2025, left a profound void in the lives of all who knew him. He is survived by his caring brother, Taji Askia; sisters, Qiana McKenzie and Marika Fuquay, and a wonderful group of aunts and uncles, including Nauteia (Ardis), Michele (Kenneth), Leon Pruitte, Brian King, and Herman George, along with many wonderful cousins. Rico also leaves behind a special friend and nephew, Truvion, who will carry his spirit forward.
Rico’s kind nature and positive outlook on life will always be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, and may we hold tight to the beautiful memories we shared with him. His light will forever shine brightly in our hearts!
