Rodney Dean Hendrix passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. He was born on February 8, 1956, to the late Nancy Beatrice Hendrix and Horace Lawrence in Chicago, Illinois.
Rodney spent his early years in Chicago before moving to Joliet, IL in the late 1960’s, where he attended Joliet East High School.
Rodney, affectionately known as “Deanie Boy”, a nickname lovingly given to him by his favorite uncle, the late John Langford, accepted Christ at an early age at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where he and his brothers sang in the Choir, and where his mother played the piano, creating cherished family memories.
Rodney was known for his big, compassionate heart. Despite his shortcomings, he would give you the shirt off his back. He loved his family deeply and took great joy in spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. Rodney had a passion for baking, a skill he learned from his late mother, and he could cook just about anything. In the final days of his life, Rodney was blessed to spend quality time with his eldest daughter, Shanna Nichol in Austin, Texas.
Rodney was preceded in death by his mother and father; son, Derrick Sewell; two brothers, Eric and Marc Hendrix; aunts, Georgia Mae Christian and Katie Langford; uncles, John Langford and James Langford; niece, Tunicia April; and his mother-in-law, Earnestine Brown.
Rodney leaves to cherish his memory: his lovely wife, Linda Byrd Hendrix; his son, Rodney Dean Sewell; daughters, Shanna Nichol Sewell and Lakendel (Javondas) Smith; brothers, Carey Hendrix and Paul Hendrix; grandchildren, Brandon Sewell, Corey, Cor’Sean, Coreon, and Ja’Nylah; nephews, Airrace Muhammad, Eric (Lakeisha) Gavins, Marc Hendrix Jr., and Edward Hendrix; nieces, Erica (Marquis) Young and Aisha (Jerry) Williams; and sister-in-law, Annette Hendrix.
Rodney will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. May he rest in Peace.
