Ruby Edwards Obituary

Ruby D. Edwards was born January 15, 1943, in Soso Mississippi to Alma and Grant Barnett. Ruby was one of five children born to this union. She departed this life on May 22, 2025 at 3:18 A.M. with her daughter by her side. 

She accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Soso, Mississippi. In the Spring of 1952, Ruby moved to Joliet, IL where she united with Mt Zion Baptist church under the leadership of Rev. Hill, and later under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Issac Singleton, Sr., and Rev. Dr. David G. Latimore. Ruby remained an active member of Mt. Zion until she and her daughter moved to Mt. Dora, FL.

On August 11, 1961, she united in Holy Matrimony to Willie J. Edwards, and to this union two, children were born.

Ruby was a Seamstress, and after moving to Joliet in 1952, she was employed as a Seamstress for Hart Schaffner Mark until the Company relocated from Joliet to Chicago, IL. She was later employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company until her retirement in early 2000.

Ruby enjoyed sewing and word search puzzles. She continued to do both until her vision and health declined. Ruby's main interest was caring for her family and spoiling her grandsons.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Willie J. Edwards; her parents, Grant and Alma Barnett, grandparents, John and Elyan Knight and Herbert and Nellie Barnett; two grandsons, DaShawn O'Keefe and Montel Edwards.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Angela "Neicy" Edwards of Mt Dora, FL; son, James “Sonny” Edwards of GA; three sisters, Mae (Neal) Carson of Joliet, IL, Tommie Barnett of Kansas City, MO and Helen Barnett of Joliet, IL; one brother, Robert "Bob" Barnett of Joliet, IL; three grandsons, Arlynd (Brittany) Edwards of Powder Springs, GA, Dontra Loggins of Joliet, IL and Marcus Edwards of Houston, TX; two great-grandsons, Arriyon Edwards of Power Springs, GA and Armani Edwards, Houston, TX; goddaughter, McKenna Carson of Joliet, IL; a special aunt, Ruth White of Lockport, IL;  an honorary son, Mark Davis of Lockport, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
