Shirley Crowder Obituary

Shirley Michelle Crowder, known as “Michelle”, was born on April 13, 1975 to Savannah Smith and Robert McClain in Springfield, IL. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Loyola University Hospital.

Michelle attended school in Galesburg, IL. Later, she moved to Joliet, IL and attended Joliet Job Corps where she met her husband, Jeffery Crowder, and to that union, she had her first child. After their separation, she met Douglas Norris and to that union, two children were born, a set of twins.

During her lifetime, Michele worked for Lockport School District 205 as a bus monitor for special needs children until her health started to decline.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Savannah Smith; her grandmother, Al-D Williams; and her sister, Marie Smith.

Michelle has many family, friends, and loved ones left behind to cherish her memories: her daughters, Akia Crowder and Arielle Norris; her only son, Artice Norris; her father, Robert (Kathy) McClain; brothers, Jesse Smith (Tara Hawk), George Smith, Daniel McClain, and Anthony McClain; one sister, Thalitha Smith; mother and father-in-law, Lester Sr. and Sylvia Dotson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eva (Melvin) Williams, Bethany (Pedro) Gallegos, Camille (Amos) Morgan; Mary Dotson, and Lester Dotson Jr.; special uncle, Paul Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
