Stanley Adams Obituary

Stanley Adams was born June 7, 1947 in Proctor, Arkansas. He was one of 13 children born to the union of Kelo and Idella Adams. In 1951 the family moved to Joliet, Illinois.

Stanley was educated in the Joliet Public Schools, graduating from Joliet West High School. He loved and played football and wrestling while in school.

Stanley accepted Christ and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Isaac Singleton, Sr. where he served faithfully as a Deacon. Stanley was also a member of the Men’s Ministry, Men’s Chorus and Sunday School.

Stanley joined the United States Marine Corps. He served four years from 1966 to 1970. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era. While in the service he traveled all over the world and received many awards: the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Metal, Good Conduct Metal Award, Rifle Marksman Badge, Platoon Honor man and the Blues Award.

Stanley met Laura Jean Roberson in 1972, they enjoyed a lengthy relationship and were later United in Holy Matrimony on May 27, 1989. 

Stanley held many jobs after returning home from service. His most recent was with the Secretary of State Driver’s License Division in Joliet as a Customer Service Rep/Examiner. Stanley served on the Board of Cornerstone Services in Joliet retiring in 2023. Stanley served and was a faithful member of the Buffalo Soldiers Post 241 as Chaplain and Treasurer until retiring early this year.

Stanley was an avid fisherman, hunter and sports fan, who loved to play chess, cards and board games. He loved and enjoyed family gatherings and good eating. He had an outgoing bubbly personality and loved reminiscing and talking about the good old times with family and friends. He also loved traveling.

Stanley transitioned to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 8, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Opal Smith; five brothers, Lendell, Tylo, Bernard, Burley and Jodell Adams; and one aunt, Pearl Henderson.

Stanley is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Laura; one son, Vincent Winters and one daughter, Tracey Rodgers; 13 grandchildren, Vincent Mayweather of Montgomery, IL, Cameo Mayweather of Katy, TX, LeCarr Mayweather of Schaumberg, IL, Recca Sims of Joliet, IL, Quintin and Quincy Winters of Romeoville, IL, Valencia Winters of MS, Charwanna and Steadman Kelly, Stanae and Shaquille Williams all of Joliet, IL, Tabitha and Veronica Fox of GA; 18 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Tamar McBride, of Albany, GA, Iola Chism, Gloria Wiley, and Magdalene Pierrot all of Joliet, IL; two brothers, Carnell Adams of FL and Rommey Adams of Joliet, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
