Thelma Jones Obituary

Thelma Jean Jones was born on May 22,1961, in Canton, Mississippi. Thelma passed away November 17, 2021, in Elk Grove, Illinois.

Thelma is survived by her husband, James H. Jones; daughter, Paris (Quentin) Ball; siblings, Vertis (Patrick) Elmore, Alice Mae Luckett, Patrick Luckett, Marion Luckett, Gary Luckett, Evelyn Stevens and Tony Stevens. Her grandchildren: Olivia Ball, Brooklyn Ball and Benjamin Ball. Host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Thelma is the oldest of eight children. She grew up in Lockport, IL and she was raised by her grandmother, Vera Douglas after her father passed away. Thelma knew the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ at a young age. Thelma lived in Lockport, IL for over 30 years and she moved to Joliet, IL in 2018.

Thelma graduated from Lockport Central High school in 1979.  Shortly after, she attended beauty school and used her skills to style her friend’s and family’s hair out of her home. Thelma was a dedicated hard worker, rarely taking days off.  She was a valued employee for every company she worked for, includingToys R Us (15 years) and Grand Prairie Transit for the last 17 years, where she monitored and ensured the safe travels of special needs students.  

Thelma was a sweet and strong person. She always showed her southern hospitality to family, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed helping others and she never hesitated to open her home to those in need. She stayed in touch with everyone and kept the family connected. She adored her grandchildren and she loved spending time with them. Thelma exemplified the importance of gratitude, loyalty, and love. She always left an impression on others. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and best friend. Her Smile and laughter will be deeply missed.

Hobbies included cooking, knitting blankets, fishing, photography, talking on the phone, shopping, planting, and watching sports with her husband. 

Thelma is preceded in death by her father, Peter Luckett, her mother, Rubie Mae Anderson, her grandmother, Vera Douglas, her granddaughter, Tia Ball.
