Deacon Tommie Ray “Bump” Herrod was born October 24, 1953 in Joliet, Illinois to Earmond Lee Herrod and Gertie Mae Herrod. Tommie was one of five brothers. Tommie departed this life on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois.
Tommie resided his entire life in the Joliet area. He graduated from Fairmont Junior High School and Lockport Township High School Class of 1972.
Tommie married Markettia A. Willis on November 30, 1974. To this union five children were born, Auredia, Antoinette, Amanda, Quintin and Angelique.
Tommie grew up a devoted member of Prayer Tower Church of God In Christ of Joliet, Illinois under the leadership of Pastor Robert L. Dorris. Tommie gave his life to Christ as a member of St. James Community Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Supt. James H. Hamilton Sr. He was a senior Deacon, and Trustee of the church.
Tommie provided for his family, being employed for 50 plus years at Akzo Novbel of Joliet and was last employed at First Student Bus Company as an aid for five years.
Deacon Tommie was preceded in death by his wife, Evangelist Markettia Ann Herrod; his mother, Gertie Mae Herrod; his father, Earmond Lee Herrod, and brother, Larry L. Herrod.
He leaves to cherish his memories; his children, Auredia, Angelique, and Quintin, all of Joliet, IL, Antionette Parker, of Bourbonnais, IL and Amanda Herrod of Indianapolis, IN; brothers, Earmond Lee Herrod of Maine, David Herrod of Joliet, IL, and Robert (Carla) Herrod of Broadview, IL; aunts, Lula Williams of Chicago, IL, Barbara (James) Green of Park Forest, IL, and Daisy Herod of Joliet, IL; 12 grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; loving friend, JoAnna Grose; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends and relatives.
