Trina Gavins Obituary

Trina Lynn Gavins was born on October 25, 1957 in Joliet, Illinois to the late Bettie and Mitchell Smith, Sr. On Sunday, January 12, 2025, she departed this life in Glendale Heights, Illinois. God called her home with family by her side.

Trina attended McKinley Park Grade School and was educated through the Joliet Township public schools. Trina enjoyed spending time with family and friends and enjoyed traveling and playing a little Bingo on the side.

Trina was baptized with the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:4) on the 1st day of April, 1995 at Christ Temple Church of the Apostolic Faith, Joliet and could not contain herself as she spoke in that heavenly language for over a week!

As her daughter would say, “she was called home at the age of 67 to become one of God’s angels so that she can watch over her loved ones.”  Trina had a big heart and always showed love to all those she met. Do not be sad for our beloved as God knew she was tired, so He told her it’s time for you to come home. You did your job, no more pain and suffering, only joy and happiness. Trina has oftentimes been known as the loved one that defeated odds with several illnesses in her lifetime, but God always intervened and allowed her to live on. For this we are grateful, miracle after miracle!

Trina was preceded in death by her parents, Bettie S. and Mitchell Smith, Sr., sisters, Vickie Gavins and Charlene Smith, one nephew, Kashif Logan and a great nephew, Eric Ervins.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two children: daughter, Glennisha and son, Richard Gavins, of Joliet, Illinois; eight grandchildren: Donovan, Daniel, Travion, Emmoni, Richard Jr., Zyan, Ri’Niya, and Joshua; five great grandchildren; two sisters: Barbara Robinson and Sharon (Edward) Beamon; two brothers: Darnell (Sylvia) Smith and Mitchell (Brenda) Smith; special friends: Barbara Thigpen, Anita “Peppir” Covington, Norma Jean Wright, and the Tyler sisters, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
