Vernetta Jean Jordan

Vernetta Smith Jordan was born April 20, 1961 to Milton H. Jr. and Barbara Jean Smith at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, Illinois. She was the third of four children born to this union.

Vernetta grew up in Lockport, Illinois. She received her high school diploma from Lockport Township High School. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Ebal Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor T.H. Pinnick.  She was presently a member of Bethel New Life Church in Wheaton, Illinois

She worked as general manager at Church’s Chicken, Wendy’s, Thorton Gas Station, Burger and several facilities/restaurants throughout the Joliet area. She was known as the “hostess with the most”.

Vernetta gained her wings on April 9, 2022 at 1:47 p.m. She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Jean Smith; her granddaughter, Makayla McAfee; her grandmother, Viola McElrath; other grandmother, Dora Dortch; and a host of other family members that we keep and cherish in our memories. 

Vernetta  leaves to cherish her memory: her only beloved daughter, Jacquetta (Keith) Carter; five grandchildren, Ladonte McAfee, Jacqasia McAfee, Malasia (Kiya) McAfee, Dominic McAfee, and Nicholas Duncan; great-grandchildren, Ace and Amaya McAfee. She also leaves to cherish her memory: her father, Milton H. Smith, Jr.; brother, Milton (Cindy) Smith III; sister, Belinda (Michael) Gholston; brother, Gary Wayne Smith; nieces, Angela (Monica) Collins, Barbara (Don) Fields; nephew, Harrison Gholston; cousin, Kathleen Sinks; along with many other cousins; and three very special friends, Cherie Walters, Gale Nayling, and Tuanja Carruth; and a host of family, friends, and colleagues who will cherish her memories for a lifetime.
