W.T. Smith was born to Monroe Smith and Willie Mae Smith on February 28, 1951 in Anguilla, MS. He departed this life on Monday, May 31, 2021 in Chicago, Illinois. He confessed his religious beliefs and began his work with Christ at New Baptist M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. A. Thomas.
He graduated from Henry H. Weathers High School in Rolling Fork, MS. Shortly after graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Stevenson and soon thereafter decided to make Chicago, Illinois their new place of residence. To this union, three sons were born; Tyler, Tyrone and Corey.
He was employed with LTV Steel Mill for twenty-two years and a driver with SCR Transportation for eleven years. In between these two jobs, he went to Truckers’ School and acquired his CDL License. W.T. “Smitty” mastered many skills, including automotive mechanic, building maintenance and property management for Speed Rental Properties.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Willie Mae Smith; father, Monroe Smith and four brothers.
W.T. leaves to cherish his memories; his wife, Dorothy; sons, Tyler (Sharon), Tyrone (Lakia) and Corey (Shumika) Smith, of Illinois; grandchildren, Diedre Vaughn, Brice Worthy, Keelan, Tania, Taylor, Cordai, Caleb and Sharese Smith; (4) great grandchildren; sister, Dorris Bennett of Jackson, MS; sister-in-law, JoAnne Smith of Rolling Fork, MS; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nellie Speed of Hazel Crest, IL, James (Gloria) Stevenson of University Park, IL, Charles (Maxine) Stevenson and Betty Bradshaw of Chicago, IL and Olivia Williams of Phoenix, AZ; special cousins, Lutishia Bridges and Margaret (John) Burks and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
