William Garnett Brooks Jr. was born April 27, 1956 in Joliet, IL to Melvira Alexander Brooks and William Garnett Brooks Sr. William is a graduate of Piney Wood High School in Piney Wood, MS where he excelled as a star athlete in basketball and baseball. William accepted Christ at an early age at Mars Hill C.O.G.I.C under the leadership of his uncle, James Curry Sr. He later joined St. James C.O.G.I.C under the leadership of Superintendent James Hamilton Sr.
God called William from his labor on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at RML Specialty Hospital in Hinsdale, IL.
Psalms 116:15 reads: Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. Revelations 14:13 reads: And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
William met his high school sweetheart in Piney Wood, MS. He always stated that one day Flora Hayes would be his wife. Well, destiny made that happen and in 1976 they were married and to this union three daughters and three granddaughters were born
William Brooks Jr. retired from Commonwealth Edison after a 27-years of service in Romeoville IL as a fuel and coal handler.
William hobbies includes: fishing, playing cards, watching sports, barbecuing, and spending time with his family. Barbecuing was a way to bring the family together using his special recipe. He loved gatherings and having fun with his family. Jeoparady was one of his favorite game shows and during the day, he loved old western movies (Gun Smoke, Rifle Man, Wagon Train, Long Ranger) just to name a few.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvira (Alexander) and William Brooks Sr.; one brother, Augusta Jackson and one sister, Evangelist Johnnie Ann Hite.
He is survived by his beautiful loving wife, Flora (Hayes) Brooks; three daughters, Qian (Dion) Wofford, Kimberly (Antwan) Hamilton of Joliet IL, and Kaneetha Brooks of Aurora, IL; three granddaughters, Kelise Stevens, Kennedy Stevens and Danya Wofford; one brother, Prophet Raymond E. Brooks; three sisters, Deaconess Barbara Beatty of Joliet, IL, Ruthie (June) Gill of Flint, MI, Shirley Bouie of Joliet, IL and sister in love, Carolyn Sue (Charles) Tate of Shorewood, IL along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
