William Hosey Sr. Obituary

William Herman Hosey Sr., affectionately known as “DAD (The best)”, “Big Willie”, “Rope”, “Dogger”, “Uncle Willie”, “Papa Hosey” or “Paw-Paw” from all of his love ones and friends was born July 22, 1957 in Joliet, Illinois. He was a graduate of Joliet Public Schools. William passed away at the age of 66 on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 with his family close to him in prayers and in-presence.

William “Willie” retired from Stone Container in Joliet and fully enjoyed his spare time away from work. One of his greatest passions was spending his free time on the grill, entertaining family and friends, always while watching any sporting event playing in his man cave, THE GARAGE. It was Do Not Enter unless you were ready to watch a game, have great conversation, and eat with him. If anybody knew Willie, you knew he would have married baseball if he could. If he was not playing himself, he was definitely watching it!! and do not touch the remote! He knew what was going on in a game and wasn’t even really watching it.

Preceding William in death is his father, Tarree Hosey Sr.; mother, Hazel (Gavin) Hosey; bonus mother, Virgie Hosey; brother, Cameron Hosey, and brother-in-law,  Henry Fairley.

William is survived by his loving Life Partner, Maria Smith. Willie and Maria originally met each other early in life. Their lives took them on different paths until many years later when they reconnected and chose each other as ONE. He also leaves to cherish his memories… his only son, William Hosey Jr. (Dischone); grandchildren, Willliam Hosey III “Tre”, Ashlin Cottman, Donovan Jones, and Sebastian Hosey; great-grandchildren, Harmoni and Ace Hosey; sisters, Freda (Gavin) Fairley (Late Henry), Geraldine (Bridges) Stilwell (Tim), and Stephanie (Hosey) Moffett; brothers, Tarree Hosey Jr., Mark Anthony Hosey Sr. (Mary) and John Patrick Hosey. Willie had many friends but three who were really close to him and always were in the garage watching the games with him, George Donald, Rhode Nixon, and Ronald Bills Sr. Additionally, he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and neighborhood friends. FYI, Jennifer, Parise, Jammie, Brittney, Jazmyn, Jackie, and Dailey all of you were his favorite niece.
