Willie Mae Blackwell-Harvey, 87, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025. Born in Winfield, Louisiana, she built a life defined by love, strength, and faith. She resided in Joliet Illinois, where she became a cherished presence to family, friends, and all who knew her.
Willie Mae was known for her gentle spirit, quiet wisdom, and the comforting warmth she shared so naturally. Her kindness touched every generation of her family, and her resilience inspired everyone blessed to be part of her life. She lived with grace compassion, and heart that always made room for others.
Willie Mae dedicated 27 years of service to the Department of Corrections, retiring with honor and professionalism.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her siblings Charles Compton, Felton Compton, and Rosemary Jacobs; her daughter, Sherry Bradford (James); her grandson, Richard Boyd; and her granddaughter Diamond Blackwell.
She leaves her legacy of love and life to her children: Anitra(Bruce) Milam, Kerwin (Lavita) Blackwell, and Nolan Blackwell Jr. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: LaDonya, Deanna, Johnny, Candice, Brandon, Megan, Madison, Keagan, Autumn, Hannah, Makyla, and Nolan. Along with 13 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored.
Willie Mae is also survived by her special friend, Linola Spann, and Jeraldine Rucker and a host of other relatives and friends who will forever remember her warmth, generosity, and beautiful spirit.
