Winnifred Landery Obituary

Winnifred Maxine Landery gained her heavenly wings on December 2, 2022. Winnifred was one of eleven children born to the late Clarence F. Landery and Flossie M. Landery of Joliet. She was born September 27, 1949 in DuQuoin, Illinois, the family later relocated to Joliet where she enjoyed an active childhood, and established lifelong relationships with family and dear friends.

At a young age she placed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev.Dr. Isaac Singleton, Sr. She graduated from Joliet West Township High School. With Winnie’s strong work ethic, she was employed by Western Electric, Honeywell Corporation, and lastly District 204 Joliet Township before retiring July 26, 2022.

Winnie served her family unselfishly and tirelessly, always leading by example, by offering her expert advice. Her passion in life was her dedication to family and friends, she enjoyed spending her pastime with her family, grandkids, and friends. Winnifred loved traveling near and far to visit relatives, her personal time was spent cooking and bowling. She was always family-focused and never missed a family gathering throughout the years. Winnie loved good food and a good laugh. She had a special relationship with her son Mark, and nephew Biffy. She had a close relationship with her niece Carolyn, who always kept a loving eye out for her ‘Auntie’. Winnie was especially proud of her three grandchildren; Orlando (Little O), David (DJ), and Mya. She was recently blessed with her first great grandchild, Mary.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents: Clarence and Flossie Landery, brothers: William Landery, and James Landery and her sister, Louella Landery.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted son, Orlando Marquell, and two caring grandsons: Orlando James, David John and one granddaughter: Mya Marie; sisters: Janet Smith, Eloise Creal, and Venita Brass; brothers: Byford (Phontella) Landery, Michael (Lolita) Landery, Russell (Dawn) Landery, and Arthur Davis. Winnifred leaves to her memories a host of nieces, nephews and friends. To know Winnie was to love Winnie, she never had an enemy.

Mark 8:35

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it. But whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s the same shall save it.
