Zora Garrett Obituary

Zora Mae Garrett was born to Emma Lee Young and Julius Young on June 29, 1948, in Memphis, TN.  She went to her Heavenly home Monday, May 4, 2020.

Zora is preceded in death by her parents, Emma and Julius Young; four brothers, Eddie Sr., Julius Sr., LG, and Joe Young; one sister, Grace Young.

Zora is a graduate of Lockport Township High School.  During her life she was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev J.W. Walton.  Later she joined Friendship All Denomination Church.  Zora was employed for over 20 years at Alumax Aluminum Company in Morris, IL as an inspector and then promoted to supervisor until the company closed.  She later worked for Silver Cross Hospital until retirement.  She was a hard worker and an extremely dedicated employee.

Zora loved planning events, writing poetry, and making people smile.  She planned several outstanding events for her colleagues and friends.  She could walk in a room and put a smile on everyone’s face. Her favorite passion was spending time with her grandchildren.  She loved taking them on vacations, shopping and spoiling them.  On any given day you could find her listening to hymns or writing poetry.  She will be remembered for her kind heart and loving sprit.

She leaves to mourn her beautiful memories; two children, Napoleon Garrett III of Joliet, IL and Patricia Young of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Julius Garrett-Joliet IL, Nia Sorhaindo-Atlanta,GA and Deven Garrett-Milwaukee, WI.  Two sisters, Mildred Campbell-Joliet IL and Georgia Gilliam-Richmond VA.; two brothers, John Young Sr-Joliet, IL and David Young Sr-Texarkana TX; one sister-in-law, Margaret Garrett; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Special Friends: Monica Bell, Virginia Freeman, Hortencia and Romeo Ranares.
