Richard Myers was born on October 28, 1939 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to the late Lonnie and Jessie Myers.  He passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at his residence with family by his side.


He was preceded in death by his great grand-daughter, Mariah; his siblings, Earnestine (Ivory) Bew, Sam (Dollie), Charles (Johnnie) and Mufford Myers.


Richard was employed by Caterpillar Tractor Co. and retired after 38-1/2 years of service. He was a machine operator and union steward for many years.  After retiring, Richard and his wife traveled many places.  He decided many years after retirement to keep busy as a part-time bus driver for six years with Septran Bus Company.


Left to cherish Richard’s memories is his wife of 51 years, Merlean; six children, Anita (John) Chaney, Birmingham, AL, Anthony (Angelic) McCullough of Glendale, AZ, Richard Robinson of Belen, Costa Rica, Lionel (Jennifer) Myers of Joliet, IL; Jacki (Mike) Finch of Channahon, IL and Vernon Myers (Shanan Washington) of Joliet, IL; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, three brothers; five sisters and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

We, the members of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Birmingham, Alabama, want the family to know that our hearts are with you as you gather to bid a Christian good-bye to a valiant man, Brother Richard Myers, the father and father-in-law of Anita and Reverend John Chaney, Jr. and the grandfather of John, III and Joshua who are all very active members, participants, and willing workers for Christ.

We are in place in this world for a limited time, and with the breath of the infant begins the race to the grave. A race everyone must run. We know your loss is deep, and your sorrow is great, but we want you to know that we share in your sorrow, but more importantly, we recognize that this loss is Heaven’s gain.
No matter what your trials are, or how big your mountain seems; The Lord is there to see you through; He’ll go to all extremes.
So if your cross seems hard to bear; and you know not what to do;
The One who loves you most of all will be there to see you through.
